Kids, Help the Library Help You
-
Paper and pen or pencil.
-
A copy of your assignment or book list.
-
A Wichita Public Library card. You can use a family member's card.
-
Money. You may need to pay for copies from books or computers.
-
Be specific when asking for help. If you need information on giant pandas, do not ask "where are the animal books"?
-
Be prepared to do some searching. Not every subject is listed specifically in the computer. If you are looking for African tree frogs, you may need to find a book on African animals.
-
Come to the library as a group only if you have a group project. If you are in a group, split up and gather information in different areas.
-
If you leave a textbook at school or home, the library will not have a copy of it.
-
Come in as soon as possible for assignments. Don't wait until the last minute.
-
Take only the materials you will use. Don't wipe out an entire subject area if possible.
-
Write down all the information (title, author, etc.) you need about the sources you use before returning them to the library.
-
Return materials promptly so others can use them.
-
Parents need to be clear on your assignment if they are to pick up material for you. Talk with them about your subject and project. Give them a copy of the assignment.
It is your assignment, your research, your project, your grade.
