2014 Top Innovator
On June 26, 2014, the Urban Libraries Council (ULC) recognized 22 public libraries from throughout the United States and Canada as 2014 "Top Innovators."
ULC’s Innovations Initiative highlights library programs, services and operating practices that demonstrate leadership by creating new approaches and practices to ensure that public libraries are meeting the ever-changing needs of their communities. The Wichita Public Library was selected for honorable mention recognition in the Civic and Community Engagement category.
Wichita Public Library has been instrumental in the City of Wichita’s initiative to increase engagement with residents, in part, by creating and managing the Activate Wichita website. Nearly 1,500 people are using Activate Wichita to share their opinions on issues ranging from library services and fireworks to the City’s transit system and water supply. More than 400 ideas for ways to improve the community have been suggested by Activate Wichita participants.
