Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan is a sharing of resources among libraries. Interlibrary Loan makes it possible to gain access to the collections of libraries across the world.
Anyone with a current Wichita Public Library card in good standing can use the service.
The Wichita Public Library does not charge for Interlibrary Loan service; however, some lending libraries charge a fee. If you are willing to pay a fee for the item, usually $3 to $15, put the amount in the 'maximum you will pay' space on the form. The Library will not exceed the amount you wish to pay. If you do not wish to pay anything, write zero in the space.
Forms may be picked up at any Wichita Public Library location, or you may print an Interlibrary Loan Form (PDF). The requests may by dropped off at any branch, mailed in or faxed to (316) 262-4540. No requests are taken over the phone because a signature is required.
You are allowed three Interlibrary Loan items checked out and/or requests pending at the same time.
Most requests are filled in two to four weeks depending on whether the item is immediately available from the lending library.
You will be notified by phone or e-mail as soon as you item is received. If you cannot be reached by phone or e-mail, a notice will be mailed.
Loan periods are determined by the lending library so they will vary. Please note that Interlibrary Loan materials cannot be renewed, and overdue fines are $1.00 per day per item.
You will be notified as soon as the item arrives or if we are unable to locate a lending library. Because of the high volume of requests we process, the Interlibrary Loan office is unable to offer status updates. Your request will be updated on your customer account. You may contact any library service desk for an update to your request.
More than one lending library may be used to fill your order. This means items will rarely arrive at the same time. The items may have different due dates, so please pick up each item when it arrives.
Please verify the information on your requests before you turn them in. To verify the availability of articles, obituaries, birth announcements, etc., from older newspapers, check with the General Reference desk of the Central Library. Information on more recent articles and publications can be found through the Library's Online Reference Sources. To verify the title, author, and publication date of a book, you may use WorldCat.
